- Understand the importance of reading and interpreting plans correctly
- Be able to identify some of the common industry problems in plan reading and develop skills to resolve these issues
- Have gained practical skills in understanding ‘scales’ and ‘contours’ on plans
- Have gained experience in reading and interpreting a variety of plans including:
- Site plans, floor plans and elevation plans
- Subdivision plans and Section 88b instruments
- Section plans, shadow diagrams and engineering plans.

Course outline
The following content will be covered during this course:
- The importance of plan reading and correct terminology
- Interpreting plan scales
- Understanding contours
- Interpreting site plans, floor plans, elevations plans, section plans etc.
- Subdivision plans and 88b instruments
- Interpreting overshadowing diagrams
- Reading specialised plans: engineering details and bushfire plans.
Delivery style
This course will be delivered as an interactive workshop consisting of an instructor-led lecture, group and individual activities. This training approach allows participants to work through concepts introduced in an application-focused teaching environment. Participants will challenge their understanding of the concepts and consider their application once back in their individual workplace.
