ARITA Fundamentals of restructuring, insolvency and turnaround

UTS partners with the Australian Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association (ARITA) to provide the Association’s specialist postgraduate education program, the ARITA Advanced Certification. Complete this comprehensive and innovative nationwide education program to enhance and accelerate your career path in restructuring, insolvency or turnaround. This short course, Fundamentals, forms the University component of the core subject for ARITA Advanced Certification.

About this course

This course provides the foundation for restructuring and insolvency professionals by establishing the importance of professional conduct, builds the skills to identify insolvency and establishes a solid understanding of Australia’s formal restructuring tools. A particular focus is on voluntary administrations.

  • An introduction to the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth)
  • Professional ethics
  • Establishing solvency and insolvency
  • Introduction to corporate recovery proceedings
  • Voluntary administrations and deeds of company arrangement
  • Schemes of arrangements
  • Workouts and restructuring
  • An introduction to cross-border insolvency.

 

Learning outcomes

On completing this subject, together with either of the elective options Advanced Insolvency or Advanced Restructuring and Turnaround, participants will receive an Advanced Certification from ARITA, in either ‘Insolvency’ or ‘Restructuring and Turnaround’; and satisfy the education requirements to obtain Professional Membership of ARITA.

 

Prerequisites

ARITA recommend that participants have a minimum of three years experience in restructuring, insolvency or turnaround before commencing the Advanced Certification program.

Applicants must be subscribers or members of ARITA prior to enrolling in any subject of the Advanced Certification program. Visit ARITA for further information.

This course is delivered entirely online. A computer with high-speed Internet connection is essential to access the online UTS library databases and the online Learning Management System used to deliver the course content (Canvas).

This UTS short course is taught entirely online with no on-campus attendance or official contact hours.

Senior Lecturer Mark Wellard is a published insolvency law academic and former Legal Director of ARITA. Before becoming an academic, Mark practised as a senior insolvency lawyer with leading law firms in Australia and the UK. Mark leads the UTS team that develops and delivers ARITA Advanced Certification.
