UTS has created this course to help you build a strong understanding of entrepreneurship to kickstart your journey. We’ve brought together UTS entrepreneurship experts to share their insights and experiences on what it actually is, and unpack buzzwords that you might hear.

In this course, you’ll learn about key entrepreneurial terms, explore examples of entrepreneurship locally and globally, and recognise how much value it can bring both socially and economically. Margaret Petty

Margaret Petty
Executive Director of Innovation and Enterprise, UTS

Margaret is passionate about the development of innovation and entrepreneurship activities to ensure and sustain collaborative, adaptive environments. She is currently the Executive Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Technology Sydney and a member of the Board of Directors of the World Design Organisation.

Murray Hurps

Murray Hurps

Murray Hurps is UTS’ first Director of Entrepreneurship, tasked with growing the number of student-founded startups coming out of UTS. Murray plays a key role in developing and sustaining pathways connecting UTS graduates and student founders to the startup ecosystem. Murray also leads initiatives to ensure Ultimo continues to expand its historical position as a significant contributor to Sydney's startup ecosystem.

Murray is well-known for his role as CEO of Fishburners from 2014 to 2017,
growing it into Australia’s largest startup community. Prior to that, Murray
co-founded Startup Muster, the largest survey of the Australian startup
ecosystem, after 14 years of starting and building different Australian
startups. Most recently he was Program Director for FUELD, Westpac's
data-focused accelerator program.

Maya Marcus

Maya Marcus
Entrepreneurship Education Manager

Maya is passionate about developing and supporting innovative solutions to
societal issues. As the Manager of Entrepreneurship Education for the UTS
Innovation & Entrepreneurship Unit, she develops entrepreneurship resources,
content and programs, develops and pilots new initiatives, and manages
entrepreneurship education and research partnerships. She is responsible for
scaling entrepreneurship experiences to students across UTS.

Maya is equipped with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication in Public Relations,
with a sub-major in Gender, a Graduate Certificate in Not for Profit and Social
Enterprise Management and a Masters of Applied Policy.
