Course outline

During this course you will explore the fundamentals of accounting and how to read and interpret financial statements. By the end of the course, you will have developed the skills to make informed financial decisions, analyse risks and rewards, assess current financial positions and plan for future growth.

This course is 100% online and is designed to allow you to work at your own time and pace. The course resources are downloadable and you will have access to the course content for 6 months. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a UTS short course certificate.

The topics and key themes covered in this course include:

  • The four financial statements - identifying their purposes and key features 
  • Financial statement analysis - investigating and analysing financial statements
  • Ratio analysis - analysing business position and performance using financial ratios.

  • Investigate and analyse financial statements
  • Analyse business position and performance using financial ratios.

Requirements

To complete this online course, you will need a personal computer with adequate internet access and sufficient software and bandwidth to support web conferencing. You will also require an operating system with a web browser compatible with Canvas, Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
