Today, new business models are being built in parallel with new technologies and new capabilities are continuously emerging. This has created a gap in skillsets for individuals to better understand the bridge between these domains – it’s no longer enough to be an expert in only technology or business.

About this course

This course is a collaboration between UTS, ITIC and Engenesis. ITIC logo[1].png

We are running this course fully-online to allow for remote learning during physical distancing restrictions.

We'll walk you through what you can expect as a business leader from initial launch to having a new business venture into the market and scaling. This course delves into the deep intertwine between creating new business models and new streams of income and the development of technology-based products and platforms.

It is important at this stage to understand how large the potential is for your company to grow and to identify the core drivers of value. We will help you view your business from the standpoint of an investor and gain an insider's perspective of what investors want and the questions they will ask. You'll be guided through how to create your investor pitch and documentation and gain an understanding of the landscape of funding opportunities available.

Course outline

The program runs over 2 x 4-hour sessions in consecutive weeks. Each session comprises two modules of the course content. The modules are outlined below.

Module 1 - Discovering and defining your market and investment opportunity

What is the difference between just an idea and a high-potential business concept? This module provides the questions that entrepreneurs and investors ask when assessing market opportunities. By the end of the class, students will be able to know the critical factors to research or review before taking a venture to the next stage.

Module 2 - Designing and building out technology based products

You will learn how the streams of business, people, design and technology all are required to come together to make a high-value technology product.

Module 3 - Market traction, customer acquisition and scaling

How are technology products launched into the market? How do you need to approach getting your first 10, 100 or 100,000 customers? The class provides an insight into the process of obtaining customers for a technology product and the key principles to scaling growth.

Module 4 - Being an entrepreneur and building your team culture

Great tech products and businesses are born from great teams and leaders.
