How do we help bring creative professionals up to speed with emerging digital technologies and transformation?

People in the creative industries are being bombarded with new technologies.

Recently, the Australia Council for the Arts approached UTS to assist with helping their members and others in the creative industries understand how to harness new and emerging digital technologies in their industry.

As a sector that relies heavily on digital enablers, staying at the forefront of what's new is imperative.

Co-created learning that's specific to the sector

UTS spoke extensively with the Council to best understand their stakeholders and their industry's needs. Working in collaboration with the Council, UTS brought in academics who were specialists in the creative industries to work with others who were experts in digital and emerging technologies to custom-design learning geared explicitly to professionals in the arts sector.

The result was a six-module short course - Digital Transformation for the Creative Industries – highlighting the latest strategic and practical developments driving digital transformation in the arts and cultural sector.

An engaging, interactive course, it offers participants the opportunity to explore, discover and apply key digital concepts, such as emerging and experimental technologies, digital strategy and business models, digital mindsets and leadership at their own pace over six weeks.

Reflecting UTS's innovative approaches to learning and creativity, Digital Transformation for Cultural Industries offers a number of opportunities to practically apply key concepts, with fun activities like making your own AI art and weekly online workshops encouraging discussion and network building.

Showcasing real-world best practice

The course features expertise from some of UTS's brightest minds and best practice examples from some of Australia's leading artists and arts administrators, including acclaimed video and performance artist Shawn Gladwell, Emmy Award-winning film-maker Lynette Walworth, novelist and film-maker Distinguished Professor Larissa Behrendt AO, the Sydney Dance Company, Regional Arts Australia and more.

Digital Transformation for the Cultural Industries is a tasting platter giving participants an understanding of the options for creatives to succeed in the digital space, according to Adam McGowan, the Australia Council's Director of Industry Initiatives.

He said that the work and expertise the UTS Learning Design Team have put into the course had exceeded expectations, enabling Australian artists and arts organisations to actively implement many of these essential ideas and practices in their digital transformation journey.
