Dr Lézelle Jacobs
Associate Professor – UTS Faculty of Law

Lézelle is an internationally esteemed academic focusing her research efforts on Insolvency Practitioners and their duties and obligations. She has taught in the area since 2010 and has been recognised by the Higher Education Academy (UK) as a Senior Fellow for her practical and influential style of teaching.

An Attorney of the High Court of South Africa (non-practicing), Lézelle’s Doctor of Laws focused on the Fiduciary Duties of Business Rescue Practitioners in South Africa, resulting in a Code of Conduct that has been utilised in the drafting of an ethical code for the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) of South Africa.

Lézelle consulted on projects including the INSOL International Working Group 10 Ethical Principles for Insolvency Practitioners and UK Government funded projects. She is the author of various articles and chapters in books and is currently drafting a manuscript on Insolvency Practitioner Ethics to be Published by Edward Elgar Publishing.

Complete this comprehensive and innovative nationwide education program to enhance and accelerate your career path in restructuring, insolvency or turnaround. This course forms the University component of the first subject for ARITA Advanced Certification.

About this course

This course provides the foundation for restructuring and insolvency professionals by establishing the importance of professional conduct. Additionally, the course builds the skills to identify insolvency and establish a solid understanding of Australia’s formal restructuring tools. A particular focus of the course is on voluntary administrations.

  • Introduction to the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth)
  • Professional ethics
  • Establishing solvency and insolvency
  • Voluntary administrations and deeds of company arrangement
  • Workouts and restructuring
  • An introduction to cross-border insolvency.

Learning outcomes

On completing this ARITA subject, followed by the second subject, Advanced Insolvency, participants will receive an Advanced Certification from ARITA in Insolvency, as well as satisfy the education requirements to obtain professional membership of ARITA.

Requirements

Mandatory

  • Applicants must be subscribers or members of ARITA prior to enrolling in any subject of the advanced certification program. Visit ARITA for further information.
  • ARITA recommends that participants have a minimum of three years' experience in restructuring, insolvency or turnaround before commencing the advanced certification program.
  • This course is delivered entirely online. A computer with high-speed internet connection is essential to access the online UTS library databases and the UTS Learning Management System used to deliver the course content, Canvas.
