Course outline
This self-paced course is designed to be completed in approximately 2 hours and provides a structured yet flexible learning journey tailored to busy professionals, volunteers and individuals new to data privacy concepts. It is online and accessible on demand, allowing you to engage with the content at your own pace and revisit materials as needed.
The course is delivered through a series of interactive modules that combine clear explanations, multimedia content and relatable scenarios to support effective learning. You’ll be guided through topics that build progressively from foundational concepts to actionable practices, ensuring a coherent and engaging learning experience.
The course comprises the following topics:
- Introduction to data privacy, including what it means, why it matters and how it fits within cybersecurity
- Common privacy risks, includingoversharing, metadata exposure, poor device configurations and social engineering
- Practical privacy tools, such as how to manage privacy settings, review app permissions and interpret privacy policies
- Emerging threats, including AI-driven risks such as deepfakes and digital impersonation
- Regulatory awareness, comprising an overview of privacy-related legislation including the Australian Privacy Act and general ethical considerations
- Building a privacy-aware culture that encourages secure data practices in personal, team and organisational contexts.
