This short course will provide you with a foundational understanding of the key areas and tools used by data analysts and data scientists to help start your journey into artificial intelligence (AI) and data. You will navigate through coding and databases, and become prepared to solve different real-world problems with data analytics tools.    

Key benefits of this course

On successful completion of this course, participants should have an understanding of data and how to utilise it in effective ways through collection and curation, database queries and visualisations.

Participants should specifically be able to:

  • Implement machine learning algorithms in python
  • Design relational databases and use SQL statements in any database management system
  • Provide visualised reports using data analytic tools.

Course outline

This course comprises four modules. The course is run as virtual classroom workshops with a small group, focusing on one specific tool in the data analyst toolkit. Learners are expected to attend all sessions.

Module 1 - Python

  • Data types, function
  • Numpy
  • Pandas
  • Matplotlib.

Module 2 - SQL

  • SQL for data science
  • Basics, Functions
  • Storing and grouping.

Module 3 - Tableau

  • Fundamentals
  • Visual analytics
  • Exploring tableau, problem solving.

Module 4 - Power BI

  • Connect to data with Power BI
  • Data manipulation, visualizations
  • Data analysis expressions (DAX).

Requirements  

Mandatory

To participate in this online course, you will need a personal computer with adequate internet access, web conferencing capability and an operating system with a web browser compatible with Canvas, Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
