The demand for traceability and transparency in the fashion industry has increased significantly in the last decade,driven in part by increasing international regulations demanding transparent supply chains. Created by the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Fashion + Textile in partnership with TAFE NSW, this course will equip you with the knowledge and practical skills to advance traceability and transparency efforts in the fashion industry, promoting more sustainable and accountable practices.

About this course

Regulatory and consumer pressure are demanding the fashion industry pursue a more sustainable and ethical future. Understanding fashion’s impact on the planet and humanity and the tools that can actively improve the state of the sector is essential to driving meaningful change.

This course explores two related concepts that the industry is currently tackling - traceability and transparency. During this course you will examine the relationship between supply chains and traceability and the Modern Slavery Act and human rights issues in the industry. You’ll also examine how various technologies facilitate traceability and what their limitations are.

Through the use of self-study materials, case studies and interactive activities, you'll develop skills in advancing traceability and transparency within the fashion industry, enabling more sustainable, ethical and accountable practices across the supply chain.

By the end of this course, participants should have an understanding of:

  • What traceability in supply chains represents
  • International legislation pertaining to traceability
  • Modern slavery legislation in Australia and its impacts on fashion brands
  • How technologies facilitate traceability and what their limitations are.  

Course Outline

This self-paced, online course has been designed to be completed in approximately four hours. The course includes a range of learning resources, activities and case studies to introduce you to a variety of topics, including:

  • Modern slavery and its implications
