Discover how sustainable fashion starts with smarter materials and learn to source ethically, design responsibly and transform the fashion industry. Created by the UTS Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Fashion + Textiles in partnership with TAFE NSW, this course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about material selection in fashion design and production.

About this course

Legislation regulating fashion and textile sustainability is increasing rapidly worldwide. And in a world demanding change, professionals with a critical understanding of the impact of materials and fashion production are playing a pivotal role in shaping a more sustainable and responsible future for the fashion industry.

During this course you will be introduced to materials in the context of their use, including how the use phase relates to the impacts of materials and ultimately, material choice. You will learn to think more critically and creatively about materials in the context of how garments are used, which can vastly impact the footprints of garments over their lifetime.

By the end of the course, you should be able to critically analyse the environmental impacts of materials and fashion production and understand the need for the fashion industry to transition away from petroleum-based materials and collaborate more closely with agriculture.

The planet and the people are ready for change, and you can be part of this positive exchange.
