About this course

This Black Belt short course is the fourth step in the progressive, six-step Lean Six Sigma methodology. Building on the content introduced in the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or Black Belt stage 1) qualification, you’ll gain an understanding of the role of Black Belt project managers as facilitators and leaders within their organisations.

Course content is delivered over two discrete five-day intensive face-to-face sessions by seasoned experts from the award-winning UTS Business School who will provide personalised guidance on your specific business challenges. You’ll explore sophisticated business analysis tools, creative solution development techniques and business improvement governance models and use them to deliver measurable improvements to your organisation’s efficiency. By the end of the course, you’ll have an actionable plan for organisational improvement, as well as the skills and tools to execute it.

Course outline

The first 5-day block (stage 2) sees participants re-conceptualise their existing understanding of those skills, tools, and concepts learnt during green belt, in the context of ‘whole-of-organisation’ improvement strategy and the different role played by black belt project managers as facilitators and leaders within their organisations. This involves exploring more advanced concepts and tools that arise during the measurement phase.

The second 5-day block (stage 3) explores more advanced concepts, tools, and skills related to the analysis, implementation and control phases. This involves exploring techniques for creative solution development, statistical process control, experiment design and change management for more complex solutions.

Requirements

Mandatory

  • Applicants considering undertaking their Lean Six Sigma Black Belt qualification must have completed the UTS Lean Six Sigma Green Belt short course or equivalent third party program (you DO NOT need to have completed the Green Belt certification)
  • Please submit evidence of completion of a Green Belt program to business.futuresLSS@uts.edu.au
  • Participants will be required to bring their own laptop and charger. Software will be provided prior to course commencement and it will be the responsibility of the participant to have the software installed.
