Environmental Health in Practice

Local government is responsible for ensuring that the health of their communities and environment is protected. To achieve better environment and public health outcomes, environmental health officers and other government staff must develop and maintain skills and knowledge in a wide range of environmental health activities.

This two-day course hones your inspection and investigation skills and introduces you to other environmental health professionals. 

Course structure

Topics covered in this two-day course include: 

  • Introduction to planning legislation and development application referrals
  • Food, skin penetration, cooling towers, onsite sewerage management, public pools
  • Environmental health complaints
  • Emergency management
  • Land contamination, asbestos and clandestine drug labs
  • Licensed and sex on premises
  • Environmental audits, waste management and sustainability.

By the end of this course, you will have; 

  • An in-depth understanding of environmental health issues, giving participants a firm foundation to make independent judgements and assessments in practice
  • Increased confidence in understanding and explaining complex legislation
