Evaluation is a valuable tool for strengthening the quality of programs and improving outcomes. Evaluation provides an opportunity for critical, strategic thinking through collecting and analysing evidence about a program's activities and outcomes to both understand its effectiveness, and to improve and inform future program services. This evaluation course builds on Evaluation Course Online: Getting Started and will introduce you to the three major types of evaluation design: process, outcome, and economic evaluations.
Process, outcomes, and economic evaluations each address very different aspects of program design and delivery. This evaluation course will explore the main features of each of these designs, when they are applicable, and their respective limitations. The course will be delivered as a package of three online modules that will be facilitated by our presenters through an interactive live video link, with each module 60 minutes in duration (3 hours in total). This evaluation course online will be facilitated through an interactive live video link. Registered participants will be able to connect to the video link using Zoom (available free) and a reliable internet connection is required. Video connection details will be made available to each participant prior to the course via Canvas, the UTS Learning Management System (LMS). Course materials, presentations and/or readings will also be made available to participants within Canvas LMS.

Dr. George Argyrous is the Research and Evaluation Manager at the UTS Institute for Public Policy and Governance (IPPG) and was formerly ANZSOG Senior Lecturer in Evidence-Based Decision-Making and director of the Evidence and Evaluation Hub. He is an expert in the application of statistics and research methods to social, economic and evaluation research, and the macroeconomics of government spending. George has managed and taught a number of research methods, statistics and evaluation training courses for public sector agencies, including the Australian Broadcasting Authority, the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. He has also worked as a consultant to many public and private sector agencies on a range of research projects and evaluations. This includes: the Health Education Training Institute, Urbis, the NSW Police Service, LegalAid NSW, Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet, Optus Communications, NSW Department of Education, and the Australian Council for the Arts
Duncan is an Associate of IPPG and Director of Rooftop Social, a research and evaluation firm that specialises in facilitation and capacity building. Duncan has close to 20 years’ consulting experience across a broad range of policy areas, including education, justice, human services, health and urban affairs. He works with a diverse mix of government agencies and NGOs and teaches in executive education programs for the Australian Evaluation Society (AES) and the Australian Market and Social Research Society (AMSRS). Between 2015-19, Duncan initiated and led a major evaluation capacity building project in the NSW Department of Education.
