This is a free, self-paced online course.
In this course you will learn about how to make history in the twenty-first century. The digital revolution has radically transformed what it means to ‘do history’, and these days you can travel — online — just about anywhere and anytime in the past! To help you with your adventures we are going to equip you with a working definition of ‘history’ and an expansive understanding of what an archive can be; where you can get them and why they matter.
Along the way, you will meet some fantastic historians, archivists and curators who will give you a better grasp of how to conduct historical research, whether for university study, postgraduate research, writing fiction, making a film, or anything creative. By the end of these modules you will know how to sleuth for sources and what to do with those treasures when you have them in your hot little hands!
This taster course will cover the following content:
Module 1: What is history and what is an archive?
