Innovation has become an increasingly popular term, but what does it really mean for you, your career and your business?

Innovation frameworks are proven, practical approaches to help you find creative solutions to complex and emerging challenges, effectively identify and evaluate opportunities and make smarter, more informed business decisions.

Over three weeks, this dynamic and engaging course deep dives into four proven innovation frameworks, giving you the most up-to-date skills and confidence in mastering globally recognised innovation approaches from lean canvas to design thinking.

Designed to be completed online, the course features a weekly interactive classroom session, facilitated by UTS lecturer, Julia French.

Participants are also offered weekly check-ins with leading global industry experts, where you can get real-time, direct feedback – creating a continuous, conscientious feedback loop to help hone your skills and make the most of your learning experience.

You will also have access to our Transdisciplinary Innovation Hub, featuring exclusive talks and presentations with a host of global guest speakers to help you learn how to master innovative practices and gain behind-the-scenes insights on how it is really done.

Course structure

Delivered online, the Innovation Frameworks course consists of 3 x 3 hour weekly, live, interactive teaching sessions, facilitated by UTS Faculty of Transdisciplinary Innovation’s, Julia French.

Each session will be also be recorded so participants can review content at any time during the course.

Week 1

  • What is an innovation framework?
  • Applying innovation frameworks:
    • Lean
    • Agile
    • Prime mover
    • Open innovation.

Week 2

  • Success:
    • What does it look like?
    • I've done it all right - why is it not working?
    • How to know when you have applied the correct innovation framework to your enterprise.

Week 3

  • Innovation: The why of it all.  ‘Choose your own adventure’: Case studies in innovation frameworks.

In addition, participants will also engage with:

  • Online pre-recorded talks with leading industry guest speakers about their personal and professional journeys
  • A comprehensive resource list – available online with reading suggestions
  • A personal online learning journal with real-time feedback
  • A series of self-assessments.

Learning outcomes

  • A robust knowledge of all current innovation frameworks, from lean canvas to design thinking
  • Confidence in understanding which is the most appropriate framework to use, and when to implement
  • Tips and tricks on the best practice approaches in implementing these processes
  • Techniques to evaluate when approaches are not working, and why and how to fix it
  • Metrics-based approaches to assess when you have reached a successful outcome
  • Skills to facilitate the right conversations with a broad range of stakeholders across your business

Online delivery requirements

This course will be facilitated online using Zoom video conferencing. You will need:

  • Access to a computer or device with a reliable internet connection
  • Speakers or headphones for audio 
  • Microphone and video camera functionality (optional but recommended)
  • Please be on time, your Zoom session will commence promptly at 9.30am.

Who is this course for?
