Revit for Beginners

Revit is an intelligent, 3D model-based process that gives architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct and manage buildings and infrastructure. Learn how to create, navigate, and manage a range of BIM processes.

About this course

Are you a working in the construction industry with limited Revit experience? If so, this course is for you. The course will widen your experience in Revit as a 3D, BIM tool and will provide you with insight to more efficiently design, construct and manage buildings and infrastructure. The course will cover all the components of Revit and will teach you how to build your own library.

Course structure

During this course, you will learn how to use Revit as a 3D, BIM (parametric object-based modelling) as well as how to create, navigate and manage a range of Revit processes. Moreover, you will learn how to engage effectively with other stakeholders to deliver very accurate documentation packages, including details and 3D models.

You will develop an advanced skill set using Revit, which is the number one industry standard for BIM software packages. Through hands-on experience with this program, you will build a holistic understanding of BIM as a key tool that is shaping your industry. This course runs over three days in UTS’s revitalised 5D BIM Lab. As well as gaining valuable experience, you will also be given supplementary reading materials to provide context for your learning.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you'll understand:

  • Different dimension of BIM technology
  • How to use Revit to create a 3D BIM model
  • How to use Revit for clash detection, quantity and material take-off schedules and other applications
  • How to use Revit to prepare a documentation package.

Mohamed Khallaf

Mohamed Khallaf
BIM Manager and Lecturer at SUT, UTS and GRP24

Dr. Mohamed Khallaf is a BIM manager and lecturer who has worked extensively in 3D, 4D and 6D BIM. Mo has more than 13 years’ experience in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry. He is passionate about utilising BIM systems to deliver projects more effectively and efficiently and has developed a wide range of technical skills working as a BIM manager on large scale projects.

Mo is also working as a lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney, and at Swinburne University of Technology, teaching Digital Design and Construction to the Architecture and Construction Project Management students.

Dina Abouzied is a BIM manager with 11 years of experience in the Architecture and Construction Field. Dina holds a bachelor's degree in architecture and environmental design as well as a Diploma in architecture from Arab Academy for Science and Technology.

Dina has developed a wide range of technical skills working as a BIM manager on infrastructure projects. She is also working as a lead tutor at the University of Technology Sydney,  teaching BIM technology to  Digital Design and Construction students.
