Cybersecurity for company directors

When it comes to cyber security, a perfect storm is brewing as the threat landscape continues to evolve faster than ever, fueled by innovation, automation and the drive to the cloud, compounded by a cyber skill shortage and the growing reputational, financial and legal implications of a cyber breach for company directors and executives.

About this course

This course is a collaboration between UTS and ITIC. 

This course addresses the urgent cyber security awareness needs of directors and executives through providing the relevant commercial and technical framework and mindset from the board level down allowing organisations to navigate the complexity and achieve optimal returns on their investments in people, processes and systems.

Course structure

This half-day course covers three key areas:

  • A concise, high-level understanding of regulation and compliance issues, personal liability for company directors
  • Risk evaluation and management framework to quantify the likelihood and severity to develop a response commensurate to the level of cyber security threat
  • Shifting the cyber strategy mindset from compliance/limitation of legal liability towards maximising the efficacy of cyber security investments

 

Learning Outcomes

  • Working knowledge of relevant cyber security legislation for Board Directors
  • A basic risk management framework to evaluable cyber security investment
  • A mindset towards cyber security that looks at maximising the efficacy of cyber security efficacy

Who is this course for?

The program is targeted at Board Directors and Executives who are:

  • Liable under relevant State and Commonwealth legislation for exposure due to cyber security
  • Not currently experts on cyber security, compliance or Information Technology

Jeffery Whitton

Jeffery Whitton

Jeffery is a global senior Executive Consultant  with over 35 years professional experience in Information Technology, Telecommunications, specialising in cyber security and IT infrastructures.

 

Jeffery’s strong technology background was gained working for leading Australian and overseas telecommunication providers and for the last 22 years he has been the CEO leading  an  ICT, MSP, MSSP integration company servicing Australia, New Zealand and Asia. This saw him consult into a diverse range of industry sectors including all tiers of  government, education, utilities, finance, mining, airline, banking, health, energy, construction and IT, with stakeholders at board and C-levels, across both business and government organisations.

 

Jeffery is a passionate believer of genuine diversity and continuing professional education; he is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Member of the Australian Information Security Association and for the past 17 years has been a Local Government Councillor.
