What is UTS Open?

UTS Open is the University’s new lifelong learning portal. It features short, online taster courses that anyone can complete, anytime. Course content generally draws from our postgraduate courses, such as the Master of Business Administration or Master of Intellectual Property.

It also features Short Courses, which can help keep you ahead in your career by upskilling, reskilling or learning something new. Designed in collaboration with industry and powered by UTS, develop the in-depth knowledge and build expertise to enhance your career.  

Who can join a UTS Open taster course?

Anyone can join, including current UTS staff and students. Current staff and students will need to create a new login to use the learning system. There is no limit to the number of courses you can join or complete.

Who has created these courses?

UTS Open's curriculum is developed by academics and researchers from across the university with input from industry leaders.

Course outcomes:

Will students receive credit or recognised prior learning (RPL) towards a university degree?

No: students will gain valuable knowledge and tools through UTS Open. However, our free courses do not currently attract credit or RPL.

Will students receive a certificate of completion for a free course?

No: Longer courses may provide this option in future. 

What will students gain from these courses?

Students will get the opportunity to develop and apply new knowledge in critical areas such as technological disruption and other UTS areas of expertise and leadership. They will also get the opportunity to experience UTS teaching and learning first hand.

Fees:

How much do courses cost?

UTS Open’s short 3-5 hour taster courses are free.

UTS Open's short courses are longer and may incur a fee. Short courses will generally provide certification of attendance or completion.

Technical support:

Can I use my UTS login for UTS Open?

Yes. You will need to create a new registration to access UTS Open, but we strongly encourage you to use your UTS ID where available.
